DAVID ANTHONY TURNER read Classics at St Andrews: studying Greek, Humanity (the ancient Scottish name for Latin), with Moral Philosophy, Psychology, and Logic and Metaphysics. He translated the OEDIPUS of Seneca for the National Theatre under Laurence Olivier and Kenneth Tynan. A glittering cast was recruited, including Irene Worth as Jocasta, and Sir John Gielgud, making his first appearance at the National, as Oedipus.

David spent almost all his working life at the BBC, in Radio, Television, the Regions and World Service, producing Drama, Talks and Features and Current Affairs. He worked for two years in Malawi on media and development, and paid working visits to Europe, the United States and West Africa.

When not at his desk, or in the library, or out running, he used to pilot his own plane. He ran the Virgin London Marathon in 2010, 2011 and 2017.
